Local Roundup: Results from Oct. 13

Six area volleyball teams all posted wins in their regular season finales on Thursday.

Posting victories were Jim Thorpe, Panther Valley, Marian, Lehighton, Pleasant Valley and Northwestern.

VOLLEYBALL

Tamaqua-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe closed out regular-season play with a 25-9, 25-10, 25-5 Schuylkill League victory over Tamaqua on Senior Night.

The Olympians’ only senior, Leah Figura, finished with 15 service points, nine aces, six kills and four digs to help her team improve to 16-2 overall and 12-2 in the league.

Maggy Hallihan also recorded her 500th assist of the season.

For the Blue Raiders, who dropped to 1-21 and 0-14, Ashlyn Houser contributed five digs, two aces and a kill, while Lacey Beers added seven digs.

Weatherly-Marian

Marian wrapped up its regular season by cruising to a 25-5, 25-10, 25-14 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

The Fillies’ Abbey Kluck had eight kills, six digs, two assists and two aces, while Megan Paisley finished with six kills and six digs.

The winners, who upped their record to 13-5 overall and 10-3 in the league, also received four kills and nine aces from Jenna Goff.

Julia Meiss chipped in with 20 assists and seven digs, with Megan Reaman contributing four aces and two digs.

For the Wreckers (4-16; 1-12), Kelly Michaels had four kills and three digs, while Becca Schell added three kills and six digs. Taylor Davidovich also recorded six digs and two service points.

Shenandoah-Panther Valley

Panther Valley ended the regular season with eight straight wins after sweeping Shenandoah Valley 25-4, 25-14, 25-12 in Schuylkill League action.

Riley McArdle had seven kills and four digs for the Panthers, while Morgan Orsulak finished the contest with 12 assists, six digs, three aces and two kills.

PV also received three kills and a block from Lauren Semko.

The Panthers are now 15-2 overall, and 12-1 in league play. Shenandoah ended its year at 2-16 and 2-11.

Pottsville-Lehighton

Lehighton ended its season on a high note, upsetting Pottsville in five sets, 25-27, 25-16, 26-24, 16-25, 15-12.

Lily Kershner had seven kills and nine blocks for the Indians, who also received 22 assists from Mia Snyder.

Isabella Mystkowski contributed three kills and two digs, while Makenna Snyder finished with five aces, two kills and four blocks.

Others aiding the Schuylkill League upset included Lorah Thomas (two kills, two blocks, two aces), Lyla Kershner (16 digs) and Autumn Clewell (five assists).

Lehighton concluded the year with a 7-13 overall record, including a 6-8 mark in the league. The Tide, who saw their five-match winning streak snapped, are now 13-4 and 11-3.

Pleasant Valley-Stroudsburg

Pleasant Valley finished off a perfect season in its division by sweeping Stroudsburg 25-13, 25-10, 25-10.

The Bears own a 12-6 overall mark, but ended 10-0 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference North Division. PV will now participate in the EPC playoffs, which begin on Saturday.

Lexi Womack had nine kills, three digs and an ace for the winners, while Nora Jones added six kills, four digs and an ace.

Others contributing included Emma Bergstresser (four kills, 10 blocks), Brianna Bruckman (eight assists, two aces) and Jackie James (five digs, four assists, two kills).

Catasauqua-Northwestern

Northwestern swept past Catasauqua 25-21, 25-8, 25-14 in Colonial League action.

Senior Brook Dwane registered 28 digs for the Tigers, allowing her to reach the 1,000-mark in her career. Dwane now has a total of 1,014.

Jenna Breininger finished with 13 kills and four digs, while Mia Ritter contributed 14 assists and six aces.

The winners finished the regular season with a 13-5 overall record, and a 7-3 mark in the league.

For the Roughies, Delaney Troxell finished with three kills, 13 digs, two aces and two blocks.

Palmerton-Notre Dame GP

Notre Dame rolled to a 25-9, 25-10, 25-4 Colonial League victory over Palmerton.

The Blue Bombers received seven digs and five assists from Alysa Roe, while Caylee Strohl added 11 digs.

The loss ended Palmerton’s season at 2-16 overall, and 0-10 in the league. The Crusaders improved to 11-3 and 8-2.

GIRLS SOCCER

Lehighton-Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain shut out Lehighton 3-0 in a Schuylkill League contest.

Danika Bolinsky and Reese Baldwin both had first-half goals for the Eagles, who closed out the regular season with a 13-4-1 overall record and a mark of 10-2-1 in the league.

The Indians received 14 saves from goalie Ciara Berhel.

Lehighton ended the regular season at 10-8 and 6-6.

Weatherly-Schuylkill Haven

Schuylkill Haven cruised to a 6-0 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

The Hurricanes, led by Audrey Hutchinson’s two goals and an assist, scored five times in the opening half.

The winners also received a goal and an assist from both Saragrace Minnig and Cadence Artz.

The Wreckers’ Emma Kane finished the contest with 23 saves.

Weatherly ended its season with a 4-14 overall mark, and an 0-14 record in the league.

CROSS COUNTRY

Jim Thorpe-Weatherly- Shenandoah-Minersville

In a Schuylkill League meet from Wednesday, the Weatherly boys and Jim Thorpe girls both went 2-1.

The Olympians’ Jordan Remmel won the boys race in a time of 16:29, while the Wreckers’ Jacob Parker and Michael Berger finished second and fourth, respectively.

Thorpe’s Aubrey Bonner (fifth), Lindsay Patton (sixth) and Kylee Fischi (eighth) all placed in the top-10 in the girls race.
