Local Roundup: Results from Sept. 27

Hat tricks by Northwestern’s Cammy Fitch and Palmerton’s Beth Morgan led their girls soccer teams to wins on Tuesday.

Marian and Panther both clinched district playoff berths in volleyball action, while Northwestern’s boys soccer team remained undefeated.

GIRLS SOCCER

Marian-Jim Thorpe

Nine different players scored goals for Jim Thorpe in a 10-0 Schuylkill League victory over Marian.

Mackenzie Yuhas tallied twice - once in each half - for the Olympians, who built a 7-0 halftime advantage.

The winners also received first-half goals from Lauren LeKites, Kalia O’Connor, Haylee Fischi, Ella Cook, Sarah Hartman and Alexis Holder.

Thorpe, who enjoyed a 30-2 margin in shot on goals, added second-half scores from Alexis Marotto and Kennedy Rider.

The win lifted the Olympians to a 10-1 overall mark, and a 6-1 record in the league. The Fillies now stand at 0-11 and 0-8.

Northwestern-Bangor

Cammy Fitch had a hat trick to propel Northwestern to a 5-0 Colonial League victory over Bangor.

Katie Brensinger and Kiersten Klein also scored goals for the Tigers, who improved to 10-3-1 overall, and 8-1-1 in the league.

Northwestern also received assists from Brook Balliet and Sammy Bardonner, and two saves from goalie Naomi Glassberg. The shutout was the Tigers’ ninth of the season.

Catasauqua-Palmerton

Beth Morgan scored three goals and Palmerton cruised to a 6-0 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua.

Emma Martinez added a goal and an assist for the Blue Bombers, while Ella Baumgardt contributed three assists.

Other goal-scorers for the winners included Sam Perloni and Nataly Walters.

Palmerton’s Emma Snyder made three saves in goal to let her team end a two-game slide and improve to 10-2 overall and a league-best 8-1.

The Roughies dropped to 1-12 and 0-9.

No. Lehigh-Moravian Ac.

Moravian Academy posted a 2-0 Colonial League shutout win over Northern Lehigh.

Izzy Tran scored on a penalty kick for the Lions, while Angel DeLurhey also tallied for the winners.

Bulldog keeper Dekotah Barthold finished with seven saves, while Moarvian’s Addie Etter also stopped seven shots.

Northern Lehigh slipped to 10-4 overall and 6-3 in the league, while Moravian Academy improved to 8-3 and 7-2.

Pottsville-Lehighton

Pottsville scored a goal in each half to earn a 2-0 Schuylkill League victory over Lehighton.

Grace Evans tallied for the Tide in the opening half, while teammate Cami Morris added an insurance goal in the second.

Indians keeper Ciara Berhel finished the contest with seven saves.

Lehighton fell to 6-4, and Pottsville improved to 9-2-2.

Tamaqua-Blue Mountain

Reese Baldwin had two goals and an assist to help Blue Mountain down Tamaqua, 7-1, in Schuylkill League action.

The Eagles also received a pair of goals from Danika Bolinsky.

Kimmy Rudy tallied for the Blue Raiders in the first half.

The loss dropped Tamaqua to 5-8 overall, and 2-6 in the league. Blue Mountain is now 7-4 and 6-2.

Weatherly-Tri-Valley

Weatherly dropped a 12-0 contest to Tri-Valley in Schuylkill League action.

The Bulldogs scored 11 first-half goals to improve to 8-5.

The loss dropped the Wreckers to 2-9 overall and 0-8 in the league.

BOYS SOCCER

Bangor-Northwestern

Matt Johnson and Tim Zellner both scored two goals as Northwestern cruised to a 7-0 Colonial League victory over Bangor.

The Tigers improved to 14-0 overall, and 9-0 in the league.

Cayden Fitch added a goal and two assists to the Northwestern cause, while Logan Mesics and Isaac Frey each contributed a goal.

The Tigers, who held a 4-0 halftime lead, also received assists from Dartanyon Delillo and Nicholas Krum.

Palmerton-Catasauqua

Palmerton battled Catasauqua through regulation and two overtime periods with neither team scoring a goal.

Blue Bomber goalie Trey Sterling made 26 saves in the 0-0 Colonial League tie.

Palmerton now has a 1-10-1 overall record, and an 0-8-1 mark in the league. The Roughies moved to 3-8-2 and 1-6-2.

Lourdes-Weatherly

Weatherly held Lourdes to one goal, but that proved to be the only tally as the Red Raiders posted a 1-0 Schuylkill League victory.

Keeper Michael Davies made six saves for the Wreckers, who dropped to 1-9 overall and 1-6 in the league.

The win lifted Lourdes to 4-3-1 in the Schuylkill League.

VOLLEYBALL

Tri-Valley-Marian

Megan Paisley had nine kills and 13 digs to help Marian gain a 25-9, 25-14, 25-13 Schuylkill League sweep of Tri-Valley.

Abbey Kluck contributed eight kills and eight digs for the winners, while Julia Meiss added 22 assists and seven digs.

The Fillies, who improved to 9-4 and clinched a district playoff berth, also received four kills and three blocks from Fatikha Tikhtova, and three kills and six digs from Jenna Goff.

Sch. Haven-Panther Valley

Panther Valley swept Schuylkill Haven 25-17, 25-11, 25-11 in Schuylkill League action to ensure itself of a district playoff berth.

Lucy Greco had six kills for the Panthers, now 9-2 overall, while Mikayla Yuricheck finished with five kills, five aces and three digs.

The winners also received 23 assists, five aces and four digs from Morgan Orsulak.

PV also won the JV match, 2-0.

Northwestern-So. Lehigh

Northwestern suffered a 25-17, 25-17, 27-25 Colonial League sweep to Southern Lehigh.

Avery Tatasciore had seven kills to lead the Spartans, while Alexis Hoyer added six kills and 11 digs.

The Tigers fell to 8-3 overall, and Solehi improved to 9-3.

Palmerton-Saucon Valley

Saucon Valley topped Palmerton by scores of 25-10, 25-10, 25-4 in a Colonial League contest.

Alyssa Roe had five digs for the Blue Bombers, while Kaitlyn Heimbach contributed three digs and Jess Heydt added two kills.

The loss dropped Palmerton to 2-8.

Tamaqua-Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain swept past Tamaqua 25-19, 25-15, 25-11 in Schuylkill League action.

Gabby Blasko had a kill, five digs and an ace for the Blue Raiders, while Eileen Lusch added four digs, an ace and a kill.

Tamaqua slipped to 1-14 overall and 0-8 in the league, while Blue Mountain moved to 6-5.

Nativity-Weatherly

Weatherly dropped a 25-13, 25-4, 25-11 Schuylkill League match to Nativity.

Kelly Michaels had five digs and a kill for the Wreckers, now 2-11.

Christal Kislan had two digs and two kills for Weatherly, while Becca Shell added three digs and three service points.

Weatherly won the JV match, 2-0.

Pleasant Valley’s two teams were both swept in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference meet at Pocono Mountain West.

Martin Green had the best finish for the Bears, placing 17th in the boys race in a time of 18:30. Frankie Morales crossed in 18:50 for 22nd place, while Andrew Ryals was 35th in 19:38.

The top PV finisher in the girls competition was Kaitlyn Guzman, who ended 31st in 25:09. Teammate Jenna Doman ended 35th in 25:50.

Pleasant Valley-Whitehall

Whitehall rolled to a 7-1 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Pleasant Valley.

Emma Bonshak scored two goals and added an assist for the Zephyrs, who also received goals from five other players.

The Bears’ Molly Sobers accounted for her team’s tally, with an assist going to Mattison Hyland.

PV fell to 2-8-1, while Whitehall upped its mark to 7-5.

GIRLS TENNIS

Tamaqua-MMI Prep

Tamaqua received a singles win from Brooke Williams, but the Blue Raiders dropped a 3-2 decision to MMI Prep.

Williams recorded a straight-set victory at No. 3 singles, while Helen Florea and Gabby Erho combined for a win at No. 1 doubles for Tamaqua (2-8).
