State police reports
State police at the Fern Ridge barracks charged two people with harassment after they were called to Red Pine Road in Chestnuthill Township at on Aug. 27.
Charged are Bartholomew Lyons, 32, and Nena Rugar, 23, both of Simpson.
Police said the victims are a 27-year-old woman and a 59-year-old man, both from Effort.
They said the woman showed them a text message thread from Rugar indicating she wished to harm the woman. The woman’s father also related a verbal conversation between himself and the accused where the same statements of harm to the victims were threatened, police said.
• A 13-year-old girl from Effort was issued a non-traffic citation for harassment (threatening physical contact) after state police from the Fern Ridge barracks were summoned on Sept. 4 to Fairfield Drive in Chestnuthill Township.
Police said the person harassed was a 13-year-old girl from Brodheadsville.
Police said the girl charged sent messages via Snapchat to the girl threatening physical harm.
• State police at the Fern Ridge barracks were summoned on Sept. 3 to investigate a shoplifting incident at the CVS Pharmacy, Route 115, Chestnuthill Township.
Police said person who stole candy from the store fled the scene in a silver GMC SUV bearing a New York registration plate.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police at the barracks.
• State police at the Fern Ridge barracks are investigating an attempted burglary that was reported on Sept. 7. at the Dollar General Store, Route 903, Penn Forest Township.
Police said nothing was taken in the attempt but drywall and metal siding on the building were damaged. The estimated damages are $200.
• A 27-year-old Effort woman was charged by state police at the Belfast barracks with stalking/harassment by following a person after an incident on Sept. 4 at the intersection of Bangor and Belfast roads in Plainfield Township.
Police say the woman stalked a 25-year-old man from Bangor.
Police said the woman was driving a vehicle that followed her ex-boyfriend for an extended period of time.
• State police at the Fogelsville barracks are investigating an identity theft case involving a 79-year-old woman from Lowhill Township.
It was reported on Aug. 18.
Police said the woman said someone sent her a fake email saying she owed money to Netflix. Upon calling the number on the email, the woman was asked to provide her Social Security number and to send numerous gift cards to the caller as payment.
• State police at the Bethlehem barracks are investigating a theft incident that was reported on Aug. 30.
Police said an 83-year-old man from Heidelberg Township reported a man driving a red sedan removed his PPL bill from his mailbox and fled, driving south on Saegersville Road in the township.
• State police at the Bethlehem barracks said a woman whose check was stolen from her mailbox in North Whitehall Township was able to cancel the check and change her banking information to avoid monetary loss in the theft. Police said a 86-year-old Schnecksville woman reported the incident on Aug. 30 after learning the check was stolen from her mailbox that day.
The Wells Fargo Bank check was in the amount of $485.
