The Ninth Annual Faron Frey Scholarship basket fundraiser for Pleasant Valley High School’s football program is Sept. 24 at Indian Mountain Rod and Gun Club. The basket raffle will start at noon and winners chosen at 4 p.m.
“In June of 2014 when cancer took Faron Frey, the Pleasant Valley football program and the community lost a dear friend, ” said Judy Neill.
Frey was her husband’s best friend and they wanted to do something to honor the man who was such a big part of the football program.
“He was such an incredible young man and we didn’t want to just, you know, let it just go by the wayside. We wanted to do something to be able to remember him. He was so supportive of Pleasant Valley football and he never missed a game, even when he was sick with cancer.” she said.
Neill started the K Fund Memorial Scholarship at Pleasant Valley the year he died.
The recipient each year is a senior football player who exemplifies his values and work ethic. The recipient is chosen by the coaching staff and the PVHS Scholarship Committee.
Neill said they have given out eight scholarships since the program started.
Anyone who wants to donate can contact Judy Neill at 570-730-0225 or drop off donations at the Jonas Market on Route 534.
