Resident complains about catch basin
Chestnuthill Township supervisors opened last Tuesday’s meeting with a non-agenda public comment from Dwight Heist, who lives on Rodenbach Lane by the Brodheadsville Post Office.
Heist addressed water collecting next to his property because of construction.
Supervisor Chuck Gould suggested he talk to someone from Latona about the problem.
“I spoke to I believe it was Mr. Jim Murray. He’s a foreman for Latona Construction Company and he said something about it couldn’t be moved further than three feet,” Heist said. “I was under the assumption that it would be 15 to 20 feet, believe me, I’m happy that it is three feet. But when you have bugs and all kinds of issues, it’s pretty close.”
Heist said it’s a danger with rain water filling the hole and if someone fell in, especially a young child, they could be injured or worse.
“What you are talking about is a sediment pond, and that would just be there during the construction process,” said township engineer Chris McDermott. “After they place the fill and, completed the project and let it return to meadow condition, the pond would actually be removed, because that’s just there for sediment pollution.”
Parks commission
Tina Drake, chairperson of the West End parks commission, asked the supervisors for help in dissolving the nonprofit group.
The parks commission will cease to exist by the end of the year, Drake said, because the park will no longer be a regional park.
Drake asked if solicitor Tim McManus, who serves Chestnuthill and Ross townships, could handle the legal matter for the commission.
Drake said the commission’s mission was to use funds it raised for the betterment of the park and not to be used for legal fees.
McManus said that wasn’t his area of law and suggested finding a lawyer versed in dissolving nonprofits and handling tax law.
Gould told Drake he would contact a law firm that was qualified.
