A Walnutport woman has been charged with DUI after a crash in Eldred Township with a baby in the car.
State Police at the Lehighton barracks said the baby, who is not yet 1 year old, had possible injuries. The infant was transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono, East Stroudsburg, by personnel from the West End Ambulance from the crash scene at 5:52 p.m. Sept. 8 on the Silver Spring Boulevard in Eldred Township.
Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle, 23-year-old Charlotte L. Petty, of Walnutport, who was uninjured, was arrested by police for driving under the influence of alcohol and endangering the welfare of a child.
Police said she was driving a 2012 Fiat west when it crossed into the eastbound lane and went off the roadway. They said the car traveled over 500 feet off the road until it came to rest, after which time Petty put the care in reverse and it traveled over 100 feet before hitting trees and coming to a halt.
Police said Petty refused medical treatment but was taken into custody and charged in Magisterial District 43-3-04.
The car sustained disabling damages and was towed from the scene.
The Polk Township Fire Department also assisted police at the scene.
