Nesquehoning to host mining operation presenation

The Nesquehoning Historical Society will host the start of a new season of presentations at the NHS Museum.

To kick it off, the NHS will sponsor a talk and visual presentation entitled “The Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company’s Summit Hill and Panther Valley Mining Operations 1818 to 1873,” by local author and historian Vince Hydro.

There will be two showings: Monday at 6:30 p.m.; and Sept. 17 at 1 p.m.

For the Monday event, musician Dave Matsinko will provide music.

Doors will open at 5 p.m. for his performance.

Hydro’s presentation will start promptly at 6:30 p.m.

Following his presentation, Hydro will be signing copies of his new book: “History of the Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company’s Summit Hill and Panther Creek Operations and Switchback Railroad.” CDs of Dave Matskinko’s music will also be available.

The events will take place at the NHS Museum, 157 W. Railroad St., Corner of Ratcliff and Railroad Sts. in Nesquehoning. There is ample parking available in the large lot located next to the museum.

This event is open to the public free of charge, although donations to the Historical Society are always welcome.
