Local roundup: Results from Sept. 7

The Jim Thorpe, Palmerton and Pleasant Valley girls’ soccer teams all posted impressive wins on Wednesday, while Northwestern field hockey earned a key Colonial League victory.

Elsewhere, Marian and Weatherly both enjoyed success in Schuylkill League cross country action.

GIRLS SOCCER

Tamaqua-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe rolled in its home opener, posting a 6-0 victory over Tamaqua in a Schuylkill League Division 1 battle to remain undefeated.

Nicole Carroll and Mackenzie Yuhas each recorded hat tricks for the Olympians, who improve to 4-0 overall. Jim Thorpe continues to play exceptional defense and has not conceded a goal this season.

Olivia Rosenberger stopped four shots to preserve the shutout, while Cecilia Ulicny made eight saves for the Blue Raiders.

Tamaqua won the JV game, 4-2, behind two goals from Katie Fredericks and one each from Isabella Fort and Addison Rummel.

Palmerton-Lehighton

Nataly Walters’ four goals highlighted Palmerton’s 5-1 non-league victory over Lehighton.

Walters went off in the second half with her last three goals after opening the game with a score for the unbeaten Bombers (4-0). Emma Martinez also added a first-half goal. Emma Snyder finished with seven saves.

Karissa Moyer scored the Indians’ (3-2) lone goal late in the second half. Ciara Behrel finished with 11 saves.

ES South-Pleasant Valley

Five different players scored as Pleasant Valley cruised to a 9-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over East Stroudsburg South.

Aryn Stivala and Ella Muir each had a hat trick for the Bears (3-1-1), with Stivala adding two assists and Muir one.

Riley Green, Emma Meyers and Makayla Berry also scored, while Hailey Klein had two assists and Sysali Banks added one.

Mya Manigo (two saves) and Sadie Rizzo (three saves) combined to secure the shutout.

BOYS SOCCER

Jim Thorpe-Blue Mountain

Seven second-half goals helped Blue Mountain pull away with a 9-3 Schuylkill League win over visiting Jim Thorpe.

With the Eagles (3-2, 3-0) leading 2-1 at halftime, Ryan Mundy scored four of his five goals after the intermission. Colton Leibold finished with five saves.

Noah Geiser led the Olympians (2-3, 1-3 SL) with two goals – one in each half, while Jacob Geiser added a second-half goal. Cael Heaney finished with eight saves.

FIELD HOCKEY

Palmerton-Northwestern

In a battle of Colonial League unbeatens, it was Northwestern that got the best of Palmerton for a 4-1 Colonial League win.

Cara Thomas sparked the Tigers (3-0-1, 2-0)) with two goals, while Liv Costa and Brinley Rex also scored. Claire Costa added an assist, and Gabby Gober recorded five saves.

Alisyn Green scored for the Bombers (3-1, 2-1). Emily Bollinger finished with 11 saves.

No. Lehigh-Catasauqua

Catasauqua knocked off Northern Lehigh for a 2-1 Colonial League win.

Shelby Haldeman posted both Roughies’ (1-3, 1-3) goals, while Cheyenne Gioielli and Abigail Anitpas each recorded assists.

Addison Cieri scored for the Bulldogs (0-3).

GOLF

Pottsville-Mahanoy Area- Panther Valley

Unbeaten Mahanoy Area posted an impressive performance in a match with Panther Valley and Pottsville at Mountain Valley Golf Course.

Bobby Kaufman paced all golfers with a medalist score of 80 for the Golden Bears (11-0), who recorded a team score of 342 to the Tide’s 366 and the Panthers’ 376.

Drew Kokinda led the Panthers (2-5) with an 84.

VOLLEYBALL

Marian-Notre Dame GP

Notre Dame Green Pond came away with a 25-20, 27-25, 25-14 non-league win over Marian.

Julia Meiss paced the Fillies (2-3) with 20 assists and eight digs, while Abbey Kluck added 11 kills and nine digs. Jenna Goff added 11 digs and two kills, while Megan Paisley had nine digs and six kills.

Notre Dame improves to 2-0 overall with the win.

Liberty-Pleasant Valley

Liberty handed Pleasant Valley its first loss of the season, as the Hurricanes pulled away for a 25-15, 25-14, 26-24 win over the Bears in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action.

Brianna Bruckman dished out 16 assists and recorded eight digs for Pleasant Valley (4-1), while Jackie James added 10 digs and two blocks. Rylee Ruggiero added six kills, three blocks, two assists and two digs, Sarah Ballek finished with nine kills and two blocks, and Emily Shupp recorded nine assists for the Bears.

Liberty remains undefeated at 4-0 overall.

Nativity-Tri-Valley

The Marian girls swept a Schuylkill League quad meet at Tri-Valley, while the Weatherly boys posted a 2-1 mark.

The Colts’ Albin Petschauer and the Fillies’ Emma Ashlfield led the way for the locals, as both finished first in their respective meets. Petschauer crossed first in a time of 18:44, while Ashfield recorded a first-place time of 24:24.

The Wreckers’ Jacob Parker earned a second-place finish with a time of 19:16 in the boys’ meet, while the Fillies’ Ava Fritz and Kerrigan Digris finished in third and fourth, respectively, in the girls’ meet.
