Two men with backgrounds in deep coal mining were on hand Sunday at Lansford’s No. 9 Mine and Museum Labor Day Picnic. Robbie Flowers, left, of Plains Township and Steve Mau of Summit Hill wore authentic mining gear and answered visitors’ questions about the life of a coal miner. Ethnic food, music and mine tours highlighted the day, a salute to miners’ picnics held during the reign of King Coal.
