Man sent to prison for assaulting officer

A Lehigh County man was sentenced in Carbon County court on Thursday to a state prison term for assaulting a police officer.

Todd Lindenmoyer, 43, of Whitehall, was sentenced by Judge Steven R. Serfass to serve 6 to 24 months in a state correctional facility on charges of simple assault, resisting arrest and criminal mischief. He previously pleaded guilty to the charges. In a plea deal, a felony 2 count of aggravated assault was dropped.

Lindenmoyer was arrested on May 26, 2021, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Lehighton.

Lehighton police responded to the emergency room area of the hospital after receiving a call that Palmerton police were at the hospital for a man with a mental health issue.

When Lehighton officers arrived, Lindenmoyer became unruly and attempted to leave the emergency room area despite warnings from officers to remain. He then punched Palmerton officer Brian Stern in the face. As officers struggled to get Lindenmoyer under control, he kept attempting to strike Stern. He also punched two holes in a wall at the hospital.

Lindenmoyer was on state parole at the time of the incident and is in the state prison at Dallas, Luzerne County. His sentencing was held via video from the state prison.

Lindenmoyer told Serfass he will be given a new sentence for the violation. He told the court, “I am ashamed of all that occurred.”

He was given credit for 42 days served on the sentence and ordered to get a mental health evaluation.
