Monroe County man charged with attempted homicide

A Monroe County man was charged with attempted homicide Sunday after police said he drove his car off the road with his girlfriend in it.

The 48-year-old woman told state police at Stroudsburg that Errol R. Broomes, 49, tried to kill her when he hit her in the back of the head with a rock at their residence in Stroudsburg.

The woman told police Broomes then put her in the car and drove away.

The car crashed on Route 611, near Trinity Hill Road, in Paradise Township and was hanging off a cliff when police arrived, they said. The woman told police that Broomes intentionally drove off the road, according to the state police report.

Broomes and the woman were both taken to an area hospital, with Broomes being taken into custody and charged, police said.

He is also facing several other charges, including aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment and possession of a controlled substance.

He was arraigned before District Judge Daniel Kresge, of Pocono Township, and sent to the county jail in Snydersville unable to post $500,000 bail.
