Boyce earns Eagle Scout rank

Brody Boyce, of Clamtown Troop 755 in New Ringgold, received the rank of Eagle Scout at a court of honor on Sunday at the St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Nesquehoning.

Brody, who joined scouting in 2013, has held numerous leadership positions within the troop, including instructor, quartermaster and senior patrol leader.

His merit badges include engineering, archaeology, public speaking, music and wilderness survival. He has earned 36 merit badges, 15 of which will allow him to earn his bronze, gold and silver palms.

Brody’s Eagle Scout project involved bat conservation. In support of the ecological role bats have on the environment, four bat houses were designed, constructed and installed at Locust Lake State Park.

Schuylkill County Commissioners’ Chairman Barron “Boots” Hetherington was among several who made presentations at the court of honor.

Earlier in the week, state Sen. David Argall presented Brody with citations from the state. Brody also received dozens of congratulatory letters from other government officials.

Brody is a sophomore at Tamaqua Area Senior High School. He is an honors student, and competes on the Blue Raiders’ cross-country, wrestling and track and field teams. He is also a percussionist in the marching band. Brody plans to attend college and major in psychology.

At the court of honor, he honored his grandparents and scout leaders, and thanked his father for guidance during his scouting career.
