Logan Betz of New Ringgold received the rank of Eagle Scout at a court of honor held on Aug. 13 at the East Penn Sporting Club in Lehighton.
Since joining scouting in 2012, Betz has held numerous leadership positions within the troop, including assistant patrol leader, patrol leader and quartermaster. To date he has earned 39 merit badges covering a broad range of life skills, such as geocaching, medicine, search and rescue, and disability awareness.
His Eagle Scout project involved restoring benches at Kellner’s Dam in Tamaqua as part of the overall Kellner’s Dam cleanup project in April 2021.
State Sen. David Argall and Schuylkill County Commissioner Barron “Boots” Hetherington were among several those who made presentations at the court of honor. In addition, Betz received dozens of congratulatory letters and certificates sent by government officials and dignitaries who were not able to attend.
Logan is a junior at Blue Mountain Area Senior High School. He is enrolled in honors classes. Logan also enjoys high school varsity athletics, participating in football and track.
Logan plans to attend college after graduation and plans to study emergency medicine. He lives with his parents, Sherri and Sam Betz, along with his 11-year-old brother Gavin and a dog and cat at their home in New Ringgold.
At the court of honor, Logan honored his grandparents and Scout leaders, and thanked his parents for their guidance throughout his scouting career. He also recognized his aunt, Nancy Betz, who is battling brain cancer.
