Concert tonight

Tonight, at the Saylorsburg Blue Ridge Flea Market, the Sherman Theater is hosting its next concert which features the 2nd Players Tribute to Earth, Wind and Fire and More.

Gates open for the public at 6:15 p.m. The show starts at 7 p.m.

Tickets may be obtained at www.shermantheater.com or the Sherman Theater Box Office.

Parking is free and so is admission for children 12 and under.

Food truck fare will be available along with certain beverages.

Auxiliary meets

The American Legion Auxiliary, Post 927, will have its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. today.

General meeting

Polk Township will hold its monthly general meeting at 8 a.m. Thursday.

Mission meal

West End Mission is holding a free drive-in supper at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert.

PVSD meeting

The Pleasant Valley School District School Board will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the District Administration Building in Brodheadsville.

Knights meet

The Knights of Columbus will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the hall of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church.

WELL meetings

The West End Little League meetings are as follows: Board meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday; the public meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 18 at 7:30 p.m.

Both are at the Chestnuthill Township Park in Brodheadsville.

Primetimers meet

The Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church Primetimers group will be meeting at noon on Friday.

Senior meals

Seniors attending the Chestnuthill Senior center can choose to order pasta primavera for Friday and chicken enchilada casserole for next Wednesday if they want a prepared meal by calling Donna Riedel at 570-242-6770 by 11 a.m., two days in advance.

Breakfast served

McMichaels UMC is serving a donation-only breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday.

Offered is a full breakfast, including beverages.

Spaghetti dinner

Effort UMC has announced holding a dinner from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, either eat-in or takeout. The church is air-conditioned and handicap accessible.

Dinner will include spaghetti, with marinara or meat sauce (sausage or beef) or clam sauce, tossed salad, garlic bread, dessert and beverage.

Pancake breakfast

Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 839 of Sciota is holding its monthly community pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, rain or shine, at the hanger, 222 Hickory Lane, Saylorsburg (turn off Route 209 at Millers Flower Shop by Kate).

The breakfast features all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, orange juice, pastries and coffee.

Breakfast diners will be surrounded by private aircraft and Miata convertibles.

The Lehigh Valley Miata Owners Club will display their prized sports cars. Additionally, the pilots of EAA 839 will offer free Young Eagle flights to youth ages 7 to 17 though parental release forms are required.

Riders meet

The American Legion Riders, Chapter 927, will meet for its monthly session at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the Legion Post home in Gilbert.

Women meet

The Western Pocono Women’s Club is meeting at 7 p.m. Monday.

Madeline Worden, the club’s sponsored student to the HOBY event, will share her experience as the club’s representative at this summer’s Hugh O’Brian Youth gathering.

In addition, Mackenzie Borger, now a registered dietitian at Lehigh Valley Medical Center, Allentown, will share more information on nutrition.

The club is anticipating having its new cookbook available not only at its August Monday meeting but also at its West End Fair food stand from Aug. 21-27.

The fair will be open from 2 to 10 p.m. and will have many special events throughout the week in celebration of the fair’s 100th anniversary.

Prayer Shawls

The Effort UMC Prayer Shawl group will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Sign-ups due

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will be closing its sign-ups for its three youth groups on Tuesday.

That includes a new boys’ group, Blue Knights Boys Club, for boys 5 to 12, which is being started, and the girls’ group, Little Flowers, for girls ages 5 to 12, which continues.

Young ladies at the church, ages 12 to 17, can join the Little Women Club which meets one Friday each month from 4 to 6 p.m.

Valor support

A monthly support meeting for Valor folks will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Legion Post Home in Gilbert.

Republicans meet

The West End Republican Club will be meeting one week early due to the West End Fair. That meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 16, at Cherry’s Family Restaurant in Kresgeville.

The group will also be available at its display at the West End Fair the week of Aug. 21.

Paw painting

Once again it is time for the traditional Senior Paw Painting event at the Pleasant Valley School from 8 to 10 a.m. next Wednesday. The rain date is 8 to 10 a.m. the next day Thursday.

Also happening in the district is the PVE/PVI new student welcome breakfast for grades 1 to 5 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the PVE cafeteria.

Eldred meeting

The Eldred Township Board of Supervisors is slated to meet at 7 p.m., next Wednesday, at the municipal building on Kunkletown Road.

Meals day kickoff

Monroe County Meals on Wheels Day kickoff fundraiser is being held through Aug. 12. Call Stacey Koeck, special events coordinator, at 570-424-8794 for more information if interested as a business entity.

Ross Township is currently hosting a Meals on Wheels Essential Household Items drive during the month of August.

And the Western Pocono Community Library, Brodheadsville, is a drop-off site for the Meals on Wheels Pet food drive along with three other county libraries: Barrett Paradise, Clymer and Hughes.

These donation drives are all part of our Monroe County Meals on Wheels Day Events.

And on Aug. 20, Meals on Wheels Day, a new volunteer drive, household essentials drive, and pet food drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Rimrock Masonic Center in Bartonsville on that Saturday.

Staff will be on hand to answer any questions about volunteering with the organization and will also be collecting donations of household essentials, such as detergent, deodorant, toilet paper, etc. and pet food.

Special service

St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, is anticipating the special music of the trio Freely Given as well as their words of testimony to be brought to the 10 a.m. service on Aug. 21.

Special recycling

The Monroe County Municipal Waste Management Authority is hosting a Household Hazardous Waste event for Monroe County only on Sept. 21.

The drop-off location the Military Road Recycling Site, 1114 Military Road, Stroudsburg.

Accepted will be gasoline, antifreeze, motor oil, oil-based paint, insecticides, pool chemicals, fire extinguishers and more.

Register and pay before arriving. Only items paid for will be accepted.

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center 2023 Photo Contest is now open. People are invited to send in photos that showcase Monroe County’s finest natural resources.

Winners will receive maple syrup from the Meesing Sugarbush and a 2023 MCCD calendar. Submissions are due Sept. 23.

One grand prize winner will also be featured on the cover of the 2023 calendar.
