Local roundup: results from January 12
Panther Valley’s boys’ basketball team punched its ticket to districts with a win on Saturday.
The Marian boys’ basketball team also recorded a win, while the Tamaqua wrestling team posted three victories at the Juniata Duals.
BOYS BASKETBALL
CMVT-Panther Valley
After a 25-25 first frame, Panther Valley turned up the defense and went on to defeat Columbia-Montour Vo Tech, 77-51, in a non-league contest.
Leading the Panthers (11-2) in scoring were Rene Figueroa with 25 points, and Jake Stilitino with 23.
For CMVT, Michael Starr scored 25 and Cole Simpler had 23.
Panther Valley won the JV contest, 60-16.

Brayden Knoblauch led all scorers with 23 points for the Blue Raiders (9-4, 4-2). Lucas Gregoire added 18.
For Schuylkill Valley, M. Kauffman scored 17.
Tamaqua won the JV game, 53-40.

Trailing 41-30 at the intermission, Marian used a huge surge in the second half to battle back for a 73-61 Schuylkill League victory over Schuylkill Haven.
Brandon Sabulsky had a monster outing with 24 points and 21 rebounds for the Colts (7-7), while Tyler Fritz tallied 23 points and Dante Agosti added 13.

Tamaqua at Juniata Duals
Tamaqua finished with a 3-2 mark in the Juniata Duals, defeating Lancaster Catholic, Trinity of Camp Hill and Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy.
Several Blue Raiders had strong finishes in the event, with Aaron Coccio going 4-1 with two pins and a pair of major decisions. Nate Wickersham, at 170, notched three pins in his five matches, while Randolph Steigerwalt earned a pair of pins and a tech fall at 126.
