Penn Forest man jailed, charged with taking car, gun, entering homes
Pennsylvania State Police at Fern Ridge said a man is in the Carbon County Correctional Facility after they said he took a car and a gun and entered several houses in a Penn Forest Township neighborhood.
James L. Yenca, 34, of Jim Thorpe, has been charged with burglary, attempted burglary, theft, theft from motor vehicle, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and criminal trespass. He was arraigned and taken to Carbon County Correctional Facility, unable to post $100,000 bail.
The first incident was reported Wednesday at 8:52 a.m., when state police received a call that a black Dodge charger was taken from a home on Minisink Trail and a Subaru registered to Yenca was left in its place.
A short time later, a resident on Stony Mountain Road reported a man forcibly entered his house, went into the bedroom, and ran out when he was confronted.
The man was described as 5 feet, 10 inches, with a brown-gray beard and a blue shirt.
Another resident of Stony Mountain Road reported a man took a 380 Ruger from a car at his house. The resident reported the man tried to get into his house, but was not successful.
At 9:35 p.m. a resident said his house alarm woke him, and a man matching the description of Yenca came into his house and entered the bedroom. He scared him off with a gun.
Two other residents reported a man matching his description tried to enter their homes.
Police spotted Yenca coming out of the woods and took him into custody. He later admitted he had a gun, though it was reported that he had a felony conviction in New Jersey. He said he was waiting for his brother and said “he jumped out of his car into another car.”
The black Charger was located later on Chapman Circle.
