Local Roundup: Results from July 20

Franklin Township and Tamaqua split its Panther Valley Little League tournament games on Wednesday.

The Franklin 12s and the Tamaqua 11s both pulled out wins.

Other PVLL winners included the Jim Thorpe 11s and Towamensing.

PVLL 11-12

TOURNAMENT

FT 12s-Tamaqua 12s

The Franklin Township 12s scored in every inning to roll to a 15-3 victory over the Tamaqua 12s.

Brayden Ulshafer led a potent offense by collecting three hits, scoring two runs and adding an RBI. Parker Rodgers added two hits, knocked in two runs and scored once, while Brock Atwood finished with a single and a double, two runs scored and an RBI.

Franklin also received a pair of hits and two runs from Cash White, with Quinn Heimbach contributing a hit, a run and two RBIs. Braylon Hunsicker chipped in with two walks, two runs and an RBI, with Alex Bedocs walking twice and scoring a run.

Rodgers earned the pitching win, allowing no earned runs and just two hits in four innings of work. He also struck out four. Chase Llewellyn tossed a scoreless frame to close out the game.

For Tamaqua, Matt Guiliano had a hit and scored a run, while Gavin Edmonds accounted for his team’s other hit.

FT 11s-Tamaqua 11s

The Tamaqua 11s rallied twice before scoring a seventh-inning run to defeat the Franklin Township 11s by a 9-8 score.

Tamaqua fell behind 4-0 in the first and trailed by three runs entering the home fifth, but managed to tie the game and send it into extra innings, where it pulled out the one-run victory.

Gavin Shannon had a triple and a homer to pace the winners. He scored three runs and knocked in three.

Ryder Holmberg added a triple and scored three times, while Chance Makovec contributed a hit and two runs. Makovec also pitched two scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win. Mason Evans and Troy Hartman both chipped in with a hit and an RBI.

For Franklin, Jaxson Markell collected three hits - one a triple - and two RBIs. Alex Kish finished with two hits, two runs and two RBIs, with Landan Steigerwalt adding a pair of hits and two runs. Jake Albert ended with a hit and scored three times.

JT 11s-Anthracite 12s

The Jim Thorpe 11s cruised to a 13-2 victory over the Anthracite 12s.

The winners scored in every inning, including four times in three of the frames.

Dominic Calcano had a big game for Thorpe, finishing with three hits - two of them triples - and three runs. Bobby Levins added two hits, one a double, and scored twice, while Lucas Knopf contributed a double and two runs.

Thorpe also received a hit and two runs from Bryce McElmoyle, and a double and a run from Kade Levan.

Marshall Domski earned the pitching win, allowing just two hits.

Towamensing-JT 12s

Xavier Ahner and TJ Weller both knocked in three runs to power Towamensing to a 13-9 victory over the Jim Thorpe 12s.

Ahner had a double and a triple for the winners, while Weller collected a single and a triple.

Lukas Rivera finished with three hits for Towamensing and also knocked in a pair of runs. Conner Buck added a hit, an RBI and a stolen base.

Rivera struck out five in 2 2/3 innings of work, with Weller fanning six in 3 1/3 innings.

For Thorpe, Anthony Kiehl finished with three hits - two of them doubles - and two RBIs. Thomas Pantages, meanwhile, contributed a single, double and knocked in three runs.
