Police find man in cardiac arrest with snake wrapped around neck

Upper Macungie Township police responded to an unusual call last Friday.

Police said at 2:12 p.m. officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1400 block of Church Street in Fogelsville for a man in cardiac arrest with a snake wrapped around his neck.

The 28-year-old man was unresponsive and lying on the floor of a home with the mid portion of a large snake wrapped around his neck. Due to the massive size of the reptile, estimated to be 15 feet, one of the officers was able to shoot the snake in the head without risking further injury to the man. Officers were able to pull the man to safety.

The man was then treated at the scene by medical personnel and transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest. His condition was not available for the police report. The snake is now deceased.
