Carbon motorcyclist injured in Lehigh crash

A Carbon County motorcyclist was injured Wednesday when his bike and a deer collided on a Lehigh County roadway at 4:58 p.m.

State police at Bethlehem said James E. Wentz, 50, of Parryville, was operating a 1994 Harley-Davidson bike southbound on Bake Over Road in Heidelberg Township, near the intersection with Buckery Road, when his bike struck a deer.

Due to the impact, Wentz was thrown from the bike, which fell on its side and slid about 70 feet before coming to rest in the middle of the road.

Wentz, who was not wearing a helmet, was found lying on the western shoulder of the road.

He was taken by ambulance to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, Salisbury Township.
