Franklin fire company to hold block party

The 41st annual Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 Block Party will run July 29-30 at the fire department on Fairyland Road.

Chris Lilly, president of the Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary, said the event is among the fire company’s top fundraisers.

Lilly said St. Luke’s Hospital is the corporate community sponsor of the event, and is sponsoring the bands and the fireworks.

She said the chance auction and various other activities are being sponsored and funded by numerous local businesses.

Lilly said the event starts at 4 p.m. both days, with a menu that includes homemade filling, chicken barbecue, fish sandwiches, hamburgers, hots dogs, steak sandwiches, sausage sandwiches, French fries, pierogies, waffles and ice cream, Italian ice, funnel cakes, popcorn and candy.

She said other activities both days include a chance auction; bake sale; children’s activities (bounce house, Buster the Clown, and games); Bingo; Big Six Wheel; Lottery Tree; 50/50, raffles, rip-opens and a beer garden. The fire company is not a BYOB company, and no coolers are allowed.

Lilly said July 29 will feature seafood dinners from 4-7 p.m. along with music by Tommy Guns from 6-10 p.m.

Dinners include a choice of baked or fried haddock, chicken fingers or shrimp served with choice of French fries or filling. The cost is $13 per meal, and are available until they run out.

On July 30, Mystery City will perform from 6-10 p.m. The fireworks spectacular will follow at 10:30 p.m.

Lilly said the fire company is working toward paving the driveway and having the parking lots paved, and added it needs another fire truck, which will cost close to $1 million.

“There’s going to be something for everyone,” Lilly said. “We have two different bands, kids games are back, plenty of food, a bake sale, games.”
