Mahoning Township supervisors took the following action on Wednesday:
• On a 4-1 vote, hired attorney Chris Gerber as legal counsel. Gerber will assist the township with a Heart and Lung claim filed by one of the township’s police officers. Additionally, the police contract is set to expire at the end of this year, and someone from his firm will help the township negotiate that contract. Supervisor Deb McGowan was opposed.
• Tabled a request to release the Lehigh Valley Health letter of credit PennDOT improvements.
• Tabled the short-term rental ordinance.
• Tabled the fireworks ordinance.
• Approved the Sierra Vista extension letter to Dec. 31.
• Appointed Robert Moyer to the township’s Planning Commission.
• Approved a request from Mahoning Valley Fire Co. No. 1 (notification of the filing of the required paperwork to PennDOT to close the road to all traffic between Mill Road and Springhouse Road from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 17.
