Identity theft cases

• A 58-year-old Albrightsville woman is the victim of an identity theft case that is being investigated by state police at the Fern Ridge barracks.

Police said the woman, who lives along Buckhill Road in Penn Forest Township, walked into the barracks at 12:26 a.m. April 29 and told police an someone opened a bank account under her name, and then transferred $15,000 from her bank account to the fraudulent account.

• A 71-year-old Slatington man is the victim of identity theft involving his Social Security benefits.

State police at Bethlehem said they were dispatched to the victim’s residence along Friedens Road in Washington Township, on April 16.

Following an investigation which included speaking with the victim’s fiduciary, it was learned that an unknown person created a second address for the victim’s Social Security checks to be sent to while creating a digital account to make the victim believe they were still getting direct deposits.

Troopers said a total of $26,000 was rerouted over a 13-month period.
