Kyle Whitley’s admitted inability to sit still has earned him the nickname of “The Wanderer.”
He uses a variation of the moniker for his Instagram account: Wandering Whitley. And now he’s calling his exhibit at the Tamaqua Community Arts Center “Wanderings.”
“I’m all over the place,” said Whitley, whose “Wanderings” photography exhibit runs through the end of July.
A reception will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. today at the 124 Pine St. center. The public is invited.
“The photos are from all different places,” he explained.
One wall features a collection of Tamaqua’s old black-and-white street signs, photographed at different angles and intersections.
“I took these and people seem to love them,” said Whitley, of Tamaqua.
Another wall features a shot of Tamaqua taken from a rooftop, along with the Owl Creek reservoir in the borough and a farm field in Kempton, he explained.
He’s also included photos from Disney World; Washington, D.C.; and Knoebels Amusement Resort.
“I titled it ‘Wanderings’ and then every photo I just have listed the title of it and where it was taken. That’s it,” he said.
Whitley said some photos were taken with a cellphone. Many find it difficult - or impossible - to determine which ones aren’t taken with top-of-the-line cameras.
“You don’t need to have the best equipment to get a good shot. It’s all the perspective,” he said. “You freeze that perspective, that moment in time. And you may never get it again.”
