The West End Food Pantry in Kunkletown will be open for a food distribution from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday.

Bike Night held

The public is invited to the Bike Night being held at the American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday.

The event offers burgers, hot dogs, sides, cash bar, Best Bike contest, etc.

Entertainment will be by Mark Fahad Music.

Communion set

Effort UMC will offer Holy Communion during its Sunday services at 8:30 and 11 a.m.

Needed supplies

The PVEN is asking for donations for students heading back to school in August and September. Needed are personal care items such as, backpacks, uniforms, sneakers, socks, underwear, and personal care items such as toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, body wash; and school supplies such as pencils, pens, crayons, highlighters, erasers, three-ring binders, notebooks.

All items may be dropped off at the PVEN on Route 209, in Sciota.

Prayer Shawl

Effort UMC’s Prayer Shawl group will meet Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. to continue its good works.

PV Retirees

Connie Johnson has announced she is starting to work on the Preserving Memories Tribute to teacher Mark Newman. Those who knew him are asked to share their respective memories, stories and tributes with Connie Johnson via Facebook. Those tributes will be posted on July 3 on the Preserving Memories for Greater PV Community Facebook Group.

Ross meeting

Due to next Monday being the Fourth of July, Ross Township’s Board of Supervisors meeting will be held at 6 p.m. the following Monday, July 11, at the Ross Township Municipal Building on Anchorage Road in Saylorsburg.

WEHA meeting

The West End Home Association, American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Birthday celebration

American Legion, Post 927, is holding a 2022 Birthday Celebration from 3 to 9:30 p.m. July 9. It is an open to community event.

Advance tickets are one cost; tickets at the gate some more. Children under 12, with a ticketed adult, can join the party for free. For more information call 610-681-5838.

July VBS held

Effort UMC has announced its VBS for July 10-15, with classes being held primarily in the evening. The theme is Rocky Railway.

The schedule is as follows: July 10, noon to 2:30 p.m. (lunch provided); July 11, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. (meal provided); July 13-15, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. (meal provided); closing ceremony, July 17, 8:30 a.m., with hopes for the youth and families to join the congregation at this service to share their songs of worship and Scriptures learned at VBS.

Open House set

The West End Fire Company will be holding a community open house from noon to 4 p.m. July 16 at 128 Route 715 (behind Wawa) in Brodheadsville. Admission is free. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Activities for kids and adults.

One can tour the firetrucks, meet a firefighter and search and rescue teams will be present along with County EMA, 911 dispatchers, sheriff’s department and much more.

Kids can participate in various safety/resource stations and earn a prize if they complete all stations. For more information call 570-992-4121.

Senior Expo

State Sen. Mario Scavello is hosting a Senior Expo from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 19, at the Pocono Mountain Swiftwater Elementary Center.

Volunteers needed

Meals on Wheels is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Since 1972 volunteers have delivered over 2,400,000 to homebound seniors and adults with disabilities in Monroe County, all with the help of the amazing team of volunteers, says Stacey Keock, Special Events Coordinator.

However, more volunteers are needed in the West End. Anyone interested in volunteering should contact the volunteer manager, Linda Raudabaugh, at 570-424-8794 or lraudabaugh@monroemeals.org.

Coming to the West End Fairgrounds for a Meals on Wheels benefit is a car show which will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 23. The rain date is July 24.

It is being presented by the Monroe County Cruisers Car Club. All proceeds from this show benefit Monroe County Meals on Wheels.

Trophies will be awarded and admission is free for spectators who bring a donation of pet items, personal hygiene products, feminine products, toilet paper, paper towels, or anything nonfood related for clients.

There will be food/drinks available for purchase plus an extensive Tricky Tray with lots of amazing items.

Anyone interested in registering a car for the show should contact Karen Hunsberger at 570-236-8295.

There will also be a 50/50, Tricky Tray, Birthday Board, Scavenger Hunt for the kids, vendors, food, and music by Tammy G.

The first 50 cars that preregister - cutoff is July 8 - will get a goodie bag with a free event T-shirt, dash plaque and other items.

Meals on Wheels is currently requesting sponsors for the show and baskets for the tricky tray.

There are also vendor spaces available for a cost. That cost will increase after July 8. In case of inclement weather, the show will be moved to July 24.

Photo contest

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center 2023 Photo Contest is now open. Folks are invited to send in photos that showcase Monroe County’s finest natural resources. Winners will receive maple syrup from the Meesing Sugarbush and a 2023 MCCD calendar. Submissions are due Sept. 23.

One grand prize winner will also be featured on the cover of the 2023 calendar.
