Carbon County commissioners

The Carbon County commissioners acted on the following items during their weekly meeting on Thursday.

• Approved an agreement with Johnson Controls Fire Protection LP of Allentown to install Detex Rim Devices exit devices on three public access doors in courtrooms 1 and 2. The total cost is $11,970.

• Approved a project activity completion extension request for a CDBG-CV project for Family Promise Women’s Homeless Shelter/mental health/Jim Thorpe Borough, from Nov. 30 to May 13, 2023.

• Approved an agreement with the Carbon County Area Agency on Aging and Behavioral Health Associates to provide career employment to BHA students at the Jim Thorpe/Penn-Kidder and Panther Valley senior centers. The agreement begins August 2022 and ends August 2023. There is no cost to the county.

• Approved two motions for professional services agreements between the Area Agency on Aging and Luzerne/Wyoming counties Area Agency on Aging for an Aging and Disabilities Resource Center to perform Person Centered Counseling. The actions approve the agreements from July 1, 2020, to June 30, 2024.

Carbon is the fiduciary agent for the program office and will pay the approved units with resource center funding.

• The monthly Carbon County Railroad Commission meeting that was scheduled for Tuesday has been canceled.

• Commissioner Chris Lukasevich said that Carbon Transit and LANTA are starting to see requests for transportation to the new hospitals in the county and are looking at ways to serve the community with these destinations.

• Commissioners’ Chairman Wayne Nothstein announced that the new washer and dryer at the dog shelter is installed and working. It is handling approximately four loads a day at this time.
