Legion Auxiliary names essay winners

Americanism Essay Winners in Shoemaker-Haydt Unit #314 American Legion Auxiliary have been announced. The title of the essay is “How can we support families who provide care to their veterans.”

The 2022 winners:

• Class 11, grades 5 and 6: Ava Serfass, Lehighton Area Elementary School. Ava won in Unit, Council and received second place in the state contest. Ava is the daughter of Dan and Tammy Serfass.

• Class 111, grades 7 and 8: Haily Heimbach, Lehighton Area Middle School. Haily won in Unit, Council, and First in Department of PA. Haily is the daughter of Tim Heimbach and Jamie Haydt.

• Class V1, grades 7 and 8: Celine Barclay, Lehighton Area Middle School. Celine won in Unit, Council, and first in Department of PA. Celine is the daughter of Justin and Nadine Barclay.

Serfass, Heimbach and Barclay all received an “Americanism Certificate,” a monetary gift from Unit #314 and Four County Council and Dinners from Unit #314. The students will receive their Department of PA awards in June.
