Nesquehoning recognizes police, officials
Nesquehoning’s mayor recently recognized the newest members of the borough police force, as well as longtime officials within the community.
Mayor Tom Kattner thanked officers Corey Herring and Michael Weaver, as well as longtime officer Carl Breiner, for their dedication to rebuilding the borough police force after the department was hampered with several resignations, as well as injuries that resulted in retirements, in recent years.
He said that he wants the public to know that Nesquehoning is coming back stronger than ever.
“For the past year and a half or two years, people thought they could run over Nesquehoning,” Kattner said. “Well, that’s not happening anymore. We’re bringing these good cops here. People are going to see that Nesquehoning is coming back and Nesquehoning will be what it was years ago.”
Nesquehoning is currently without a police chief after Chief Sean Smith retired following a yearlong injury.
Kattner said he hopes an announcement regarding the person being named the new police chief will be made public soon.
He thanked the three officers for choosing to serve the community and promises to continue to rebuild the staff that is needed to protect the town.
Kattner also recognized John McArdle, Nesquehoning Hose Company fire chief, for serving in that capacity for 28 years; as well as Father Robert Teklinski of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, who has served as pastor in the church for 21 years.
He said that it is a group effort and looks forward to continuing to make progress in the borough.
