The Walker Township board of supervisors hired a part-time police officer during a special meeting Friday afternoon.
In his new role, Harry Brown will assist township Officer in Charge Doug Springer.
Board Chairman Craig Wagner said Brown’s employment is effective immediately.
“The one thing that we did stress is that we needed coverage on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sunday nights,” Wagner said. “Harry was more than willing to be available during that time frame.”
He will likely work about 10 hours each week. Springer also works part-time.
Wagner said Brown, of Pottsville, came “highly recommended” to the township. He has worked as an officer in other municipalities, he noted.
He was hired on motion made by Wagner and seconded by Vice Chairman Kent Hosler. Supervisor Mathew Koch was absent.
