Pleasant Valley hires HR director

The Pleasant Valley School District has a new leader in the human resources department.

The school board approved hiring Lori Fulmer as the supervisor of human resources on Thursday night. Fulmer’s title is different from that of her predecessor, Jessica Tomon, who was called the director of human resources.

Tomon left in December, but her resignation wasn’t officially approved until February.

Tomon joined the school district on July 16, 2020, with a three-year contract and a salary of $100,000 per year. Fulmer was offered a salary of $80,000 per year effective July 5.

Superintendent James Konrad said the school board approved making the position “part of the Act 93 bargaining unit as opposed to a separate individual contract” in January.

“We thought it would be a better fit,” he said.

On the opposite end of hiring, Michael Borger, the head of maintenance, has resigned. Borger was promoted to the position from maintenance technician four months ago on Feb. 10 with a pay rate of $26.03 per hour. He replaced Randy Smale, whose resignation was approved on Jan. 27.

At the May 26 meeting, the school board approved the resignation of Angela Borealo, one of two assistant principals at Pleasant Valley Elementary School. She had been with the school district since 2018.

The sports department lost three head coaches at the end of May. Wrestling head coach Alex Depew turned in his resignation along with Gregory Duff, cross country, and Daniel Muir, the girls basketball head coach.

Bookkeeper Deborah Sandt also resigned in May. The school board approved recalling Catherine Kurczeski from the furlough list to replace Sandt as a bookkeeper with a salary of $34,664.

Also recalled from the furlough list on Thursday are Michelle Albanese, a health and physical education teacher, and Ashley Thompson, a family and consumer science teacher. Both will move from high school to the middle school.
