Beckett helping Lehighton

As its search for a new borough manager continues, Lehighton has sought the assistance of its former leader to assist during the transition period.

On a unanimous measure, borough council after an executive session on Monday approved the proposal for interim assistance by Nicole Beckett.

The proposal calls for a starting date retroactive to May 21, and continues through Aug. 21, at the rate of $1,200 per month for Beckett’s services.

Last month, council hired Kim Rubin as interim borough manager as per the terms approved by council until a permanent borough manager is chosen.

Rubin began as interim borough manager on May 23. The requested rate was $40 an hour. Rubin had been serving as the borough’s assistant secretary-treasurer.

At a special meeting in April, council after an executive session approved a proposal from the Meyner Center for the proposal for recruitment services by David Woglom for the borough manager position.

Also at that time, council approved the proposal from Intercounty Investigations & Solutions Inc. for the municipal manager applicant background investigation.

In April, council accepted Beckett’s resignation, effective May 20.

Beckett accepted the position of associate director of public service at the Robert B. and Helen S. Meyner Center for the Study of State and Local Government at Lafayette College.

In January, council approved the employment agreement with Beckett in the amount of $97,031.

Beckett served briefly as treasurer/assistant secretary before she became borough manager in 2011. Before that, she was secretary-treasurer for the Borough of Lansford for over six years, and secretary/assistant treasurer in Rush Township for two years.
