Weatherly grads told to put in hours to achieve greatness
“Success is not final; failure is not fatal; it is the courage to continue that counts.”
Valedictorian Timothy Maguschak offered that quote from Winston Churchill as he spoke at the Weatherly Area High School Class of 2022 Graduation.
Twenty-six students received their diplomas during the program held in the middle school gymnasium.
Maguschak continued, “I’ve learned that success is not given, it is earned. In life, one must put in the hours and the hard work to achieve greatness. I’ve learned to treat everyone with respect, wherever I may go.”
During the ceremony, the Weatherly High School Class of 1972 was honored by Daniel Malloy, Weatherly School Superintendent.
Salutatorian Richard Ray, addressed the crowd.
“As a community, as graduates, in order to do what we want in life, we have to overcome our disadvantages and work that much harder to get where we want to be. Track has taught me that our disadvantages do not eliminate us from competing for our goals. All it means is that we have to work that much harder.”
The Weatherly High School Chorus performed several selections. Rebekah McFadden sang the national anthem.
In his commencement address, guest speaker Joshua Titus spoke about time. He said using it or losing it, time is a precious commodity.
“Once high school ends and the ‘real world’ you’ve been hearing about hits, don’t be afraid to nerd out on what makes you passionate, occupy yourself with noble pursuits, and spend your time with those you love.”
Sarah Minnick, high school guidance counselor, introduced the Class of 2022 as they each came forward to receive their diplomas from April Walter, president of the Weatherly School Board; and Daniel Malloy, superintendent.
As the graduation neared its end, class President Mason Stewart spoke.
“We all have our own ideas on what to do next, most being quite different from one another. We all have our own skills and intelligence that are gonna take us who knows where. But, we also will always have this keystone in our lives.”
