Democratic and Republican vote totals in Carbon County were consistent with statewide results in the U.S. Senate race, with local voters favoring the apparent winners of each parties’ nominations, but in the GOP balloting for the nomination of Pennsylvania governor, the county voters went in a different direction.

On the Democratic side, county voters favored Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, who was the winner of the statewide balloting for the party’s nomination for U.S. Senate.

The Republican voters favored their party’s winner for the Senate nomination, Mehmet Oz.

But in the GOP balloting for governor, Carbon County Republicans went in a different direction than winner Sen. Douglas V. Mastriano, favoring former Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta.

In the county’s balloting for the Democratic Senate nomination, Fetterman received 2,737 unofficial votes, followed by Conor Lamb, 1,001, Alex Khalil, 252, and Malcolm Kenyatta, 249.

The GOP balloting locally saw Oz collecting 2,950 votes to lead the way. Dave McCormick was second with 2,715, followed by Kathy Barnette, 1,641, Jeff Bartos, 348, Carla Sanda, 274, George Bochetto, 71, and Sean Gale, 70.

While Democrat Josh Shapiro was the lone candidate on that side, collecting 3,993 token votes, Barletta was favored by 4,265 county Republicans. Mastriano was a distant second with 2,590 votes, followed by Bill McSwain, 594, Dave White, 356, Melissa Hart, 124, Nche Zama, 86, Joe Gale, 58, Jake Corman, 39, and Charlie Gerow, 33.

In the lieutenant governor’s balloting, county Democrats favored Austin Davis, the statewide winner, with 1,825 votes. Brian Sims was second with 1,361 votes while Ray Sosa tallied 771 and finished in third place.

On the Republican side, there were nine candidates. Statewide winner Carrie Lewis Delrosso was tops in Carbon with 1,823 votes. Josh Brown was second with 1,322, followed by Teddy Daniels, 1,026, Clarice Schillinger, 919, James Earl Jones, 707, Rick Saccone, 663, Jeff Coleman, 389, Russ Diamond, 280, and Chris Frye, 245.

The Carbon balloting saw Rep. Doyle Heffley collect 7,408 complimentary votes from the Republicans and Richard Kost, Palmerton, receive 3,924 token votes from the Democrats. They will square off in November for the two-year term in the 122nd District of the PA House of Representatives.

Carbon voters also participated in the balloting for the 7th U.S. Congressional District. On the GOP side, party voters favored Kevin Dellicker over the winner, Lisa Scheller. Dellicker received 3,947 voter, and Scheller, 3,566.

Scheller will face Democratic incumbent Susan Wild in November. Wild was unopposed and received 3,867 token votes in the county.

In other balloting, the GOP is scheduled to elect two people to represent it on the state Republican committee. There were only two candidates. Joe Steber collected 5,449 votes and Timm Berger followed with 4,670.

The Democrats are slated to elect one person to their statewide committee. There were no candidates on the ballot yesterday, although party members submitted 276 write-in votes for the post.

Overall, 12,669 people out of 36,800 registered voters participated in the balloting, which represents a 34.43 percent turnout.

All votes are unofficial until they are certified in the next week.
