Burgers get votes in Hometown

As Rush Township voters cast their ballots inside the Hometown Volunteer Fire Company Tuesday, there was another contest happening outside.

This one involved the hamburgers grilled by the staff of Gimbel Farms.

“We have two that are tied as people’s favorites,” explained Megan Gimbel, who brought the Gimbel Farms food truck to the fire company’s parking lot.

Offerings included different types of burgers made from beef raised on the Gimbels’ pastures on Still Creek Road in Rush Township. Customers could order a plain hamburger or cheeseburger, or choose from specialties like the California burger, smokehouse burger, dilly burger or Philly burger.

Tuesday’s top vote-getters, however, were the smokehouse burger with its barbecue sauce, bacon, crispy onion and cheese toppings, and the dilly burger, which features dill pickle rounds, dill aioli, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes.

Gimbel said the food truck began serving at 7 a.m., just as the polls opened. Morning items included breakfast sandwiches, cinnamon buns and apple turnovers.

Business remained steady.

“We have had a lot of people,” Gimbel said.

The food truck sold out by early Tuesday afternoon.
