Community volunteers help on Memorial Day of Caring

A number of Schuylkill United Way member agencies received help from community volunteers Friday as part of the organization’s Capt. Jason B. Jones Memorial Day of Caring.

At the Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care, volunteers from Lowe’s helped install drywall, finished work on a back room, washed windows and played bingo with guests.

Other volunteers helped at Avenues and the Schuylkill YMCA in Pottsville; Child Development centers in Mahanoy City, Fountain Springs and Pottsville, and at the Boy Scout Camp near Orwigsburg.

The United Way created the Day of Caring to match volunteers to service projects at partner agency organizations that facilitate health and human services for free or little cost to county residents.

Volunteers spend hours at the nonprofit sites, working on both indoor and outdoor projects that range from gardening to painting.
