The athletic field on North Avenue in the Heights section of Jim Thorpe, scene of Little League Baseball and summer basketball games as well as a playground equipment area for small children, has been renamed the Samuel C. Miller Athletic Field in honor of the former local burgess who conceived of the field and through whose dedicated effort it was developed in recent years.

The Jim Thorpe Community Athletic Association, which supervises the field, went on unanimous record to honor the retired PPL worker who continues to work on behalf of this and other worthwhile projects in enhancing the enjoyment of young people in their leisure time recreational pursuits.
