Marian High School senior Brendan Lonergan will attend Kings College to continue his academic and basketball careers.
Lonergan was a two-year starter at Marian, scoring 625 points for the Colts. He also played at Minersville and scored 291 points there for a career total of 916 points.
This past season, Lonergan averaged 18.2 points and 9.0 rebounds per game in leading Marian to a 15-8 record. He was named a first-team all-star by the Times News, the Pottsville Republican and the Hazleton Standard Speaker. During the course of the season, he was also named a Player of the Week winner by all three newspapers.
Lonergan was this season’s Diane Agosti Commitment Award recipient at Marian.
Following the season, he played for Pennsylvania in the 46th Annual Mid-State Roundball Senior All Star Basketball Game. He also played for the North team in the Schuylkill County Senior All Star Classic.
Lonergan also was a member of the track team at Marian.
His school activities included Student Council, Student Ambassador, SADD, and being a Marian boys summer basketball camp instructor.
The son of Barbara Lonergan of Minersville and Mark Lonergan of Lake Wynonah, Brendan plans to major in exercise science at Kings, an NCAA Division III school in Wilkes-Barre.
