Lehighton and Jim Thorpe both posted sweeps in Schuylkill League action on Monday.

Tamaqua-Lehighton

Lehighton swept Tamaqua in a Schuylkill League meet.

The Indian girls cruised to a 114-36 victory, while the boys posted a 92-58 win.

Eleven different Lehighton girls earned individual wins, with Brittney Bartasavage (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles) and Haley Ginder (triple jump, high jump) both recording two first-place finishes. The Indians, who earned firsts in 16 of the 18 events, also swept the three relays.

In the boys meet, Ethan Buchert captured three firsts taking the 100, 200 and long jump. The Indians, who swept four events (1600, 110 hurdles, shot put, javelin), also received a pair of individual wins from Owen Serfass (1600, 3200).

The Lehighton boys are now 2-4 in the league, while the girls are 4-2. Both Tamaqua teams dropped to 1-5.

North Schuylkill-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe posted a sweep of North Schuylkill in Schuylkill League action.

The Olympian boys narrowly defeated the Spartans by a 77-73 score, while the JT girls gained a 95-54 victory.

Ridge Snyder (400, 800), Ryan Bailor (1600, 3200) and David Richards (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles) all won a pair of events to lead the Thorpe boys, now 4-2 in the league. The Olympians gained firsts in 10 of the 15 individual events to key the team win.

In the girls meet, Kaila O’Connor again posted three wins (100, 200, 300 hurdles) to help her team improve to 5-1 in the league. Thorpe also received three firsts from Leah Wasko (100 hurdles, long jump, triple jump) and two from Laura Clarke (shot put, discus).

Panther Valley-Mahanoy Area

Mahanoy Area gained a sweep of Panther Valley in a Schuylkill League matchup.

The Bears edged PV, 66-64, in the boys competition while the Panther girls dropped a 101-35 decision.

The Panther Valley boys outpointed Mahanoy by a 33-11 margin in the field events, as Michael Pascoe (shot put, discus) and Bryan Wilde (long jump, triple jump) both won a pair of events, but the Bears swept all three relays to help capture the team victory.

PV’s Izabella Bochicchio gained two firsts in the girls meet, taking the shot put and discus, but the Panthers managed only one other win - Sadie Trubilla in the javelin.
