A major forest fire broke out Sunday afternoon on the Blue Mountain in Lehigh Township. The fire broke at 1:53 p.m.

Route 248 is closed from Berlinsville to Lehigh Gap. Traffic is being diverted.

Fire departments from several counties have been called. Crews from close to 20 emergency organizations are on scene.

The Bureau of Forestry has brought a helicopter to fight the fire. The helicopter is refilling in the Lehigh River.
