Summer concert series announced

The Walk In Art Center is kicking off their 2022 summer concert series with the Uptown Music Collective’s Tribute to Pink Floyd.

The Summer of ’22 has a fully slated season with five different bands, once a month, from May to September beginning with the UMC in “Rock the Block” on May 14.

This outdoor concert will be held on the grounds of the Walk In Art Center and Evans Delivery in the inner courtyard of the old Walkin Shoe Factory at the corner of Parkway and West Columbia Streets in Schuylkill Haven.

It’s a “bring your own chair” event and the gates open at 5 p.m. with the concert starting at 6 p.m.

Tickets for the event are $30 and include the concert and two pints of Yuengling (or other nonalcoholic drinks if you prefer). Food trucks will be on hand and additional beer will be available for purchase.

The Uptown Music Collective is based in the Williamsport area and features 20 or more of the best musicians in the area.

The group “deep dives” into various artists or genres and produces 4 large-scale shows each year which regularly sell out venues in Northcentral PA including the 2,000-seat Community Arts Center in Downtown Williamsport. They had just completed a show featuring the solo works of The Beatles.

This concert will feature Pink Floyd’s 1973 album “The Dark Side of the Moon” played in its entirety as well as other hits and deep cuts from the band’s monumental career brought to life on stage as only the Collective can.

They don’t do “look-alike” concerts, meaning there won’t be a Roger Waters impersonator, but they dive into the style and music of the bands and do it their way.

In May 2021, the group made their first trek to Schuylkill County for a Tribute to Led Zeppelin. Audience members were blown away by the professionalism and talent.

“They were amazing! If you closed your eyes you were thinking that it was Led Zeppelin. It was so good,” says Susie Mishu.

The Yuengling beer trailer will be on site and each ticket will come with vouchers for two drafts.

Yuengling’s Golden Eagle will be for sale as well. The concert is open to all, but wrist bands will be required to purchase adult beverages and IDs will be checked at the gate.

There is parking in Evans Delivery’s and Walk In Art Center’s additional parking lots and in the municipal parking lot by the Schuylkill Haven train station.

Due to the success of the concert last year, and recommendations for expansion of the concert series from attendees, the Walk In Art Center will have five concerts this summer.

Executive Director, Jacquie Engel, has lined up a mix of groups and genres to perform on the WIAC Outdoor Stage.

On June 5, the ’80s pop band “Velveeta,” from State College will rock out to “every song you’ve ever sung along to on the radio” - as they put it.

The M&J Big Band will be back for a concert on July 10 and the Heavy Metal “hair band” LeadFoot will rock out on Aug. 27.

The series ends with a country line dancing hoe-down with Sunset Road on Sept. 18.

Tickets for these for concerts will be available on May 15.

“Rock the Block” is sponsored by M&T Bank, the Zwerling Foundation, D.G.Yuengling, and the PA Council on the Arts.
