Local Roundup: Results from April 20
Northwestern earned wins in both baseball and boys lacrosse action on Wednesday.
Other teams posting victories included the Jim Thorpe baseball team, the Pleasant Valley girls lacrosse squad, and both the Lehighton and Palmerton tennis teams.
BASEBALL
Blue Mtn.-Jim Thorpe
Jim Thorpe used a five-run fifth inning to gain a 5-2 Schuylkill League victory over Blue Mountain.
After the Eagles scored twice in the top of the fifth to break a scoreless tie, an RBI single by Drew Wimmer and a bases-loaded walk to Casey McArdle knotted the game at 2-2. An error on Nick Schwartz’s fly ball to left allowed three runs to cross and give Thorpe the lead.
James Lordi had two hits, scored a run and turned in an outstanding pitching effort. Lordi allowed just one hit and one earned run, while striking out 11 in six innings of work.
The Olympians (4-6; 2-3) also received a pair of hits - one a double - and a run from Ian Henkels, who also recorded a save with a scoreless seventh inning.

Northwestern-Wilson
Northwestern jumped out to an early lead en route to a 7-3 Colonial League victory over Wilson.
The Tigers scored five runs in the first inning to take control. Benjamin Boyer delivered a two-run double during the first frame, while Sam Mauro added an RBI single.
Boyer also gained the pitching win, going the distance on the mound. The Northwestern hurler walked none and struck out four.
Tanner Romig finished with two hits, two runs and an RBI for the winners, with Shaun O’Donnell adding a pair of hits.
The victory upped the Tigers to 5-6 overall, and 5-4 in the CL.

Nativity-Panther Valley
A late rally by Panther Valley came up just short as Nativity held on to post a 9-8 Schuylkill League victory.
The Panthers trailed 9-2 heading into the home fifth, but pulled within a run with a five-run fifth and another run in the sixth.
Justin Sickle, however, pitched a scoreless seventh to end PV’s five-game winning streak.
Michael Pascoe had three hits, one a homer, for the Panthers. Pascoe scored twice and knocked in three runs. Cody Orsulak added two hits, a run and an RBI, while Stephen Hood contributed a pair of hits.
PV dropped to 7-2 overall, and 3-1 in the league.
Ty Kaunas paced Nativity with two hits and four RBIs.

N. Schuylkill-Lehighton
A pair of six-run innings lifted North Schuylkill to a 17-4 Schuylkill League win over Lehighton.
Collin Stanakis paced the Spartans with three hits, two runs, two RBIs and a pair of walks. Gavin Whalen and Pat Cooney both chipped in with a hit and two RBIs.
The Indians, who fell to 5-5, received two hits and a pair of runs from Ian Rarick. Aiden Rarick added a pair of hits and a run, while Austin Greene and Talan Sensinger both knocked in a pair of runs.
North Schuylkill improved to 5-3 with the win.

Tamaqua-Pottsville
Tamaqua outhit host Pottsville, but dropped a 6-5 Schuylkill League decision to the Crimson Tide.
After falling behind, the Blue Raiders used a three-run third inning to tie the game. Luke Kane delivered a two-run double, while Giannai Valentine’s sacrifice fly made the score 4-4.
Pottsville, however, pushed across a pair of runs in the fourth that proved to be the difference.
Kane finished with a pair of hits and three RBIs, while Lucas Kamant collected two hits and scored twice.
The Tide received a hit and two RBIs from Luke Salem.
Tamaqua is now 1-6, and Pottsville improved to 6-4.

Palmerton-Saucon Valley
Saucon Valley ended Palmerton’s seven-game winning streak by gaining a 9-3 Colonial League victory.
Rocky Viscito had four hits to lead the Panthers, while Erik Smith finished with three hits and two RBIs.
The Blue Bombers, now 7-3, received a hit and an RBI from both Cole Serfass and Connor Beahm. Chase Reph also chipped in with a double.

Notre Dame exploded for 10 runs in the fourth inning to cruise to a 15-1 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.
James Carter paced the undefeated Crusaders with three hits, two of them doubles, and three runs, while Collin Quintano blasted a solo homer.
For the Bulldogs, Nick Buskirk collected two of his team’s four hits.
Notre Dame improved to 10-0, while Nolehi dropped to 0-11.

Tamaqua-Pottsville
Bryn Clifford was strong on the mound and at the plate to help Tamaqua gain a 5-2 Schuylkill League victory over Pottsville.
Clifford pitched a four-hitter, striking out eight while not walking a batter. Clifford also helped her own cause with two hits and two RBIs.
The Blue Raiders, who used a four-run second inning to take control of the game, also received two hits (one a double), an RBI and two runs from Gabby Robb. Hailey Williams contributed a single, double, two RBIs and a run, while Riley MacMillan chipped in with a pair of hits and a run.
The win upped Tamaqua’s record to 2-7.

N. Schuylkill-Lehighton
A wild ending allowed North Schuylkill to pull out a 14-10 eight-inning Schuylkill League victory over Lehighton.
Johannah Taylor’s two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning sparked a Spartans six-run inning that turned a 7-3 deficit into a 9-7 lead. The Indians, however, rallied for a pair of runs in the home half to send the game to extra innings.
North Schuylkill, however, plated five runs in the eighth to earn the win.
Taylor finished with three hits, while Hailey Weikel, Maddie Hall and Abby Kuzio all contributed two hits and a pair of runs.
For the Indians, who fell to 3-6, Addison Chavanic recorded two hits and knocked in three runs. Makayla Scott added a hit and two RBIs, while Maggie Pagotto had two hits and two runs.

Haley Nedo had two hits and knocked in five runs to power Notre Dame to a 14-3 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.
Nedo drilled a two-run homer and added a double as the Crusaders improved to 4-4. Addison Ryan also collected three hits and four RBIs.
For the Bulldogs, who fell to 5-5, Emma Smith finished with two hits and a run, while Haylie Fenstermaker had two RBIs. Arabella Heintzelman chipped in with a hit and an RBI.

Mackenzie Carl collected three hits and scored three runs to help Williams Valley roll to a 17-1 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.
The Vikings also received two hits and two runs from Sage Smeltz, Sophia Mione and Miley Mahoney.
For the Wreckers, now 2-3, Madison vonFrisch had a double, while Kelly Michaels scored her team’s only run.

BOYS LACROSSE
Northwestern-Liberty
Drew Sabo, Austin Sosnovik and Blaine Snyder all scored three goals to help Northwestern gain an 11-3 victory over Liberty.
The Tigers, now 6-4, also received a goal and four assists from Andrew Collins.
Stone Sosnovik chipped in with a goal, while Taylor Wikert added an assist.
Northwestern goalie Bailen Smargiassi finished with eight saves.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Pleasant Valley-ACC
Brielle McInaw’s five goals and two assists highlighted Pleasant Valley’s 14-9 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over Allentown Central Catholic.
McInaw also provided four ground balls and three draw controls.
Alexandra Bush had a big game with four goals, an assist, five draw controls and five ground balls, while Devon Bush contributed three goals, five draw controls and two ground balls.
The Bears, who improved to 8-3, also received a goal and an assist from Olivia Iandoli. Madison Fava chipped in with a goal, with Riley Green adding an assist and two ground balls.
PV goalie Amanda Hayes finished with six saves.
TENNIS
Jim Thorpe-Lehighton
Lehighton pushed its winning streak to 10 straight, as the Indians capped regular season play with a 5-0 victory over Jim Thorpe.
Aaron Miller, Daniel Hoppes and Bayto Cokrlija all posted straight-set wins in singles play.
The Indians’ duo of Ben Slaw and Luke Blauch also won in straight sets at No. 1 doubles.
Lehighton ended the season at 11-3, while Jim Thorpe drops to 3-10.

Tyler Hager and Colby Chadwick also recorded a straight-set win at No. 1 doubles.
