Carbon County commissioners open bids for parking booth

Visitors to Jim Thorpe will soon see construction near the entrance of the parking lot.

On Thursday, the Carbon County Commissioners opened bids for a new parking booth in the county-owned lot.

Two bids were received. The low bidder was Jay Henges Enterprises Inc. of Earth City, Missouri, who submitted a bid of $36,460.43. Modular Genius Inc. of Joppa, Maryland, submitted a bid of $42,619.

The commissioners previously said that the reason for replacing the booth is because it no longer meets the needs of the parking staff.

The booth will be pushed back from its current location at the entrance to sit closer to the guide rail, out of the way of traffic.

“Again, (it’s to) make it safer, make it a better space for the employees who have to be out there in all weather elements,” Commissioner Chris Lukasevich said in March.

Following the bid openings, the board voted to table awarding the contract for two weeks until both bids could be fully reviewed for completeness.

In other construction matters, the commissioners approved the following Community Development Block Grant project bids that were opened recently.

• Franklin Township: Red Hill Road culvert replacement contract awarded to Lehigh Asphalt Paving and Construction Company, Tamaqua, $129,733.06.

• Beaver Meadows: Reconstruct and repave Penrose Street, from Hickory to Walnut, contract awarded to Franzosa Trucking Company Inc. of Hazleton, $35,265.

• Nesquehoning: Reconstruct and repave Diaz Avenue, from Angelini Avenue to Messina Street, contract awarded to Franzosa Trucking, $67,163.
