Tamaqua WIC center relocates

Maternal and Family Health Services opened a new Women, Infants and Children Nutrition Center at 111 E. Broad St., Tamaqua.

The MFHS WIC Nutrition Center is a relocation of the Tamaqua WIC Center that was at 139 W. Broad St., Tamaqua, and is now closed.

“We are excited about the opportunity to provide WIC at a more convenient location for the families we serve,” said Maria Montoro Edwards, Ph.D., president and CEO, Maternal and Family Health Services.

WIC is the nation’s premier public health and nutrition education program with an overall goal to influence lifetime nutrition through positive health behaviors.

WIC offers pregnant and breast-feeding women, infants and children under age 5 access to nutritious foods, nutrition education, breast-feeding support, farmers market vouchers, and referrals for other health and social services. WIC provides participants with supplemental healthy foods, which contain vital nutrients essential for healthy development during critical growth periods, such as pregnancy, infancy and early childhood.

To qualify for WIC, participants must meet the income guidelines, have a nutritional or medical need and live in Pennsylvania. Income guidelines are available at http://www.mfhs.org.

Pennsylvania WIC is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture. This institution is an equal opportunity provider.
