Tamaqua business holds all-ages Easter egg hunt
Employees of Stadium Hill Café in Tamaqua have been hopping through the borough, and secretly stopping every so often to hide Easter eggs.
“Everyone wants the inside tip of where we’re hiding them,” co-owner Lisa Dempsey laughed.
With 200 eggs on the line, Dempsey won’t “egg”xactly say. But she did narrow it down.
“We’ll be putting them around Tamaqua’s parks,” she said. “They won’t be high up, like in trees or anything. They will mostly be on the ground.”
The hunt is open to young and old alike, and those lucky enough to find one will win a prize.
“There is something free from our store that comes in every egg,” she said.
Among the prizes are coupons for sweets and treats like french fries, Slush Puppy slushies, meal specials and iced tea.
Dempsey came up with the idea after reading about an Ohio convenience store owner who organized an Easter egg hunt for his town.
“He did it during COVID and not a lot of people had a lot of money,” Dempsey explained. “He did it for things like bread and milk, bags of fruits and vegetables.”
She believed it would be a “cool” idea for the area.
“Plus it would encourage parents to take walks to parks with their kids,” she said.
The café dropped its first eggs on Friday evening. Employees will hide more every now and again until Easter on April 17.
While relatively new, the egg hunt has become the talk of the town.
“My friend works at the Burger King here and they’ve been asking him, ‘Where are they hiding the eggs? We know you know.’?” Dempsey said.
Because the inaugural event has become so popular, the restaurant is already upping the stakes.
“We were originally going to hide 100 but we are actually going to increase our numbers to 200 because we’ve gotten such a good turnout for it. People are getting excited. So we are going to add 100 more eggs into the pile,” Dempsey said.
Stadium Hill has already redeemed some of the prizes, she noted.
“It’s been kids that have been coming in with them after school. They’ll bring their little coupons in,” she said. “Everyone seems to think it’s a great idea.”
