Pocono Mountain Regional Police reported Derek Hayes, 35, of the 200 block of Cottage Lane, Cresco, was jailed on multiple charges after he committed an assault and then held police in an hourlong standoff at a home in A Pocono Country Place, Tobyhanna, at 7:45 a.m. Sunday.

He is charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, simple assault, endangering the welfare of children, possession of instruments of crime and harassment.

Police said they were summoned to 2830 Fairhaven Drive in the development to investigate a domestic incident. Officers determined an assault took place and attempted to speak with Hayes.

Police said he refused to come outside the home and barricaded himself in it, making threats to police while brandishing firearms. Police said Hayes pointed firearms at police.

Following the standoff, he surrendered to officers and was taken into custody.
