Chamber concerts
The Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce continues its 12th Annual Summer Concert Series on May 31 with Clayton, Tom and Dee performing classic rock with a twist. The concerts are held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on the platform at the Tamaqua Train Station. All events are weather permitting.
The entertainment will continue throughout the summer months, on select Thursdays. The rest of the schedule includes: June 7, Tom Storm playing classic rock with a soulful edge; June 14, Island Time Lite, Jimmy Buffett-style summer music; June 21, Magic Stew, classic rock/jam; June 28, Six To Midnight, acoustic ’90s and classic rock; July 12, It Takes Two, top 40s and classic good-time oldies; July 19, Shellshocked Churchills, classic rock; July 26, Big and Bad Rockabilly Cats, hillbilly rock; Aug. 2, Buddy Musselman, classic rock and outlaw country; Aug. 9, The Fat Cats, rock ’n’ roll; Aug. 16, Magic Stew, classic rock/jams; Aug. 23, The Bees Knees, ’60s rock and the British invasion bands; Aug. 30, Gene Morrison, oldies and the classics.

Rush-Ryan seniors
The Rush-Ryan-Delano Senior Citizens met May 22 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 47 members in attendance. President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business session after opening the meeting with the invocation “Garden of Pleasures.”
Birthday wishes were extended to Jane McLaughlin and Diane Gould.
Officers elected to start their terms as of June 12 are: Robert Neifert, president; Mary Reed, vice president; Ruthann Feane, secretary; and Larry Bower, treasurer.
Upcoming events include: June 6, senior day at Knoebel’s; June 28, Mohegan Sun Casino.
The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at the Ryan Township Fire Company in Barnesville and is open to anyone 55 or older.
Soup social
The next monthly community soup social at Trinity United Church of Christ will be held on Saturday. The social will be held from 4-6 p.m. in the social hall.
The meal is free to the public and everyone is welcome to enjoy the soup, desserts, refreshments and time with friends.

Hometown auxiliary
The Hometown Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, at Basile’s Restaurant on Route 309. The meeting will be followed by a white elephant bingo.

Car show
The Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a series of free, informal car shows at Heisler’s Dairy Bar in the Lewistown Valley. The shows will be held on five weekends through June 17. Billed as “Sundae Drivers Park and Gawk, organizers say the events are meant to be fun, informal shows where car enthusiasts can spend time together swapping stories and enjoy good food.
The next get-together is scheduled for Sunday. The final event will be held June 17.
Hours for all the events are tentatively scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Primitive Methodist
This Sunday’s 10:45 a.m. worship service in American Primitive Methodist Church will feature a guest speaker, a summer missionary from Child Evangelism Fellowship. Sunday school classes are held at 9:30 a.m.
Also on Sunday, the monthly service at the Hometown Nursing Center will be held at 6:30 p.m.
Hope in the Mountains NFG will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. every Thursday.
Calvary Lewistown
Elizabeth Smallwood, a summer missionary from Child Evangelism Fellowship, will be the guest speaker at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will include graduate recognition.
There will be a Sunday evening service and Bible study, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
A prayer meeting will be held at Calvary at 7 p.m. on June 8.
The Blackwood Quartet will appear in concert on June 17 at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle.
