Palmerton Police Department’s bike patrol will soon be back on the prowl.

Mayor Don Herrmann said at Thursday’s borough council meeting that the bike patrol should be up and running by Memorial Day.

Last month, council agreed to reinstall the initiative after Herrmann announced that two Trek bicycles have been purchased through a combination of donations.

Herrmann said the donations came from Harold Schisler of Campton Funeral Home, along with Dr. Louis Sportelli, DC.

That action came one month after Herrmann said he would like to see the bike patrol implemented.

The police department previously had a bike patrol that started up in June 2013 before it was discontinued.
