State police at Lehighton are investigating a reported assault incident involving a knife.

On March 7 at 12:15 p.m. troopers were flagged down by a motorist in the 600 block White Street in Bowmanstown. The motorist said an assault occurred minutes prior to that and the victim, a 53-year-old man from Bowmanstown, was struck in the head three times with a knife. The victim was then transported to St. Luke’s Hospital, Franklin Township, for treatment.

Troopers said Daniel Gillen, 27, of Kunkletown, has been charged with aggravated assault, a felony 2, simple assault, misdemeanor 2, and harassment, a summary offense.
