March 11, 1989 - Palmerton’s Ryan Heimbach and Northwestern’s Todd Fluck both capture Regional titles at the Class 2A Southeastern Regional tournament at Allen High School. Heimbach earns his gold medal with an 18-11 victory over Tom Edwards of North Schuylkill at 119 pounds. The Blue Bomber uses an escape and a five-point move to break a 10-10 tie late in the third period. Fluck uses a reversal in the third period to gain a 5-3 decision over Tony Spagnola of Bethlehem Catholic. Three other area wrestlers also punch their ticket to states. Palmerton’s John Kromer (125) and Jay Zelinsky (140) place third to earn a trip to Hershey, while Northwestern’s Chris Shalbert ends third at 112.
