Firefighters from several counties are battling a major fire in West Brunswick township near Orwigsburg. The fire broke out shortly after 4 a.m. at the Heim Construction company along Gun Club road just south of Route 443.
The first structure is the size of a football field and the fire has spread to adjoining structures.
The company, at 1020 Chestnut Road Orwigsburg, was founded in 1990 by Roy Heim, five years after he graduated from Blue Mountain High School.
Heim Construction employs 65 people and has two divisions, according to its website.
They include an infrastructure division that has completed projects such as dams, water treatment plants, streetscapes, and small bridge projects.
The general construction division has completed projects including 30,000 square foot office additions, hospital renovations, surgery centers, and a dormitory for Penn State University, as well as residential remodeling.
Heim’s newest addition is the design phase, with 3D renderings to help customers envision their project before they break ground or demolition has started.
In 2019, the company was awarded the Bronze Step Award.
The Safety Training and Evaluation Process program was developed and written by contractors, for contractors. The program provides an organized approach for analyzing and developing safety and loss prevention programs and a valid, objective method for measuring safety program improvements as well as a safety performance.
