Those in need were able to take about 1,200 hats, gloves, scarves and socks from The Giving Tree in Tamaqua this winter.
The tree in Depot Square Park was adorned with the items in December.
This was the sixth year for the effort. Donations came from the community and Safer Streets for Tamaqua’s Little Feet, an organization John and Tammy Sienkiewicz founded after the death of their daughter Alexandria “Alex” Sienkiewicz, 23, died of a fentanyl overdose April 2, 2016.
Jan. 31 was the last day people could accept the kindness of strangers.
“The tree has been a success from day one. It’s 24-hour access and the tree doesn’t ask questions,” Tammy said.
Donations for the tree for the 2022-2023 season are being accepted. To contribute, message Safer Streets for Tamaqua’s Little Feet or call 570-527-9277.
